Commercial and Amateur

Wine Competition

4:00pm - 6:00pm

An opportunity for wineries and amateurs across the country to submit their creations to be judged in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.Commercial wines must use 70% North Carolina Grown Grapes. The amateur competition is open to all states.  A complete entry is comprised of three (3) 750ml bottles, or the equivalent for commercial entries, and two (2) 750ml bottles, or the equivalent for amateur entries.  The winning wines will be displayed at the Grand Tasting Event.

Hosted by Davis Imports, local dignitaries, sponsors and event coordinators will gather at Crippen's to "un cork" the Blue Ridge Wine Festival.  Some amazing Argentinean wines will be complimented with hors d’oeuvres prepared by Crippen's Executive Chef, James Welch.  There will be live music and much more!

Like cooking, wine making is an art. Experience the finest of both at our Winemakers dinners. Wines have been paired with local restaurants to create one of the best experiences at the Festival.  Some of the areas most talented Chefs will be preparing five to seven course fixed menus.  Each course will feature a different wine chosen to excite the palette by accentuating the flavors of each course.

Wine to Water is a non-profit organiztion devoted to providing clean water and sanitation to developing countries.  The Blue Ridge Food and Wine Festival is proud to hold this fundraiser for such a fine organzation.  There will be a silent auction, a Dj, an open bar and of course wine.

Painting in the Vineyard

A watercolor painting workshop hosted by local artist Norma Suddreth.   Norma was born in the foothills of North Carolina and has won numerous regional and national awards.  She also continues to lecture and teach workshops at her studios in Lenoir and Blowing Rock.  Celebrate your creativity by using watercolors to paint a glimpse of The Blue Ridge Food and Wine Festival.  All supplies are furnished, and you will leave with a painting to frame.

Grand Tasting

The Pinnacle of the Blue Ridge Food and Wine Festival!

12:00 noon – 4:00 pm


An assortment of over 100 wines will be available for tasting from all over the world.  There will also be live music all day with Puddingstone, a six piece band that blends ancient and modern instruments for a truely unique and beautiful sound.

Shuttles will be available to transport patrons to parking areas, local shopping, dining, cooking classes, “Fire on the Rock,” and the many other activities scheduled throughout the day.

Bob Timberlake will be appearing from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.  Look for his 1930 Model A Roadster inside the tent!

After a long day of wine and fun come to The Hayes Center for an evening of great jazz celebrating Frank Sinatra.  Todd Wright, a virtuoso saxophonist is an ambassador of Jazz for Western North Carolina.  As both an educator at Appalachian State University and a performer he has been the face of jazz in the high country for nearly twenty years.  Wright has been recognized as one of the finest performers in the Southeast, was a winner of Downbeat Magazine's Gold Award at Chicago's Music Fest and was featured in Southern Living Magazine.
